The
Medical Practice of Dr. Rosenkilde.
Dr.
Rosenkilde is a neurologist in private practice,
affiliated with Northern Westchester Hospital Center,
but independent of any medical group practices. He
practices as a solo physician, trying to avoid
mass-produced assembly-line medical care that physicians
increasingly adopt in more corporate medical settings.
Although participating in many HMO programs, Dr.
Rosenkilde favors meticulous attention to the individual
needs of each patient. Dr. Rosenkilde is dedicated to
excellence of medical care based on close attention to
patients as individuals with complex backgrounds.
Detailed history is obtained from each patient, with
respect to any neurological complaint. One family
member may accompany patient. Presence of multiple
family members usually has a negative impact on the
consultation. If past medical records are
forwarded, these will be reviewed prior to the meeting.
Common problems dealt with in the office concern
headaches, neck or back pain, head injury, double
vision, temporary loss of eye sight, arm or leg weakness
or numbness, memory lapses, confusion, loss of
consciousness, dizziness, vertigo, unsteady gait,
fainting, convulsions, epilepsy, tumors of the brain,
spinal cord disease, disc herniation, stroke,
Parkinson's disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched
nerve, etc.
The
consultation proceeds with a neurological exam,
consisting of evaluation of mental status, cranial
nerves, motor functions with coordination and strength,
sensation, reflexes, gait, balance, spine, carotid
arteries. The consultation finishes with an
opinion, or a diagnosis from Dr. Rosenkilde. The
patient's questions and concerns will be addressed.
Medication and treatment will be prescribed, if
appropriate. Side effects of medications will be
discussed.
Sometimes further laboratory testing is necessary,
whether this includes some type of imaging of the body
(X-ray, CT, MRI), functional studies (EEG, carotid
ultrasound, electromyography), or tissue analysis (blood
drawing, lumbar puncture, biopsy). Sometimes
further diagnostic testing is not necessary. A
printed report for the referring physician will always
be completed after the initial consultation.
Dr.
Rosenkilde is dedicated to the education of his
patients. He participates very actively in the
continuing education of himself as a physician and of
the medical community. Dr. Rosenkilde frequently
lectures to the lay public and to the medical community.
He attends one or two major yearly neurological
conventions or conferences, particularly those of the
American Academy of Neurology and the European
Neurological Society in order to keep abreast of current
advances in treatment of his patients. He reads
numerous medical journals to follow new medical
developments but rarely has time to catch the medical
updates on Channel 5 News or CNN.
Dr.
Rosenkilde's education is described in another section
of this website. He has a broad European
educational background with an undergraduate degree in
physics and mathematics, a graduate degree in psychology
and neuropsychology, and a postgraduate doctoral degree
in neurosciences from the University of Copenhagen.
Dr. Rosenkilde has completed research fellowships at the
Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology in Warsaw,
Poland, at the National Institutes of Mental Health,
Bethesda, Maryland, and at the Brain Research Institute
of the University of College of Medicine, Bronx, New
York; a neurology residency was done at the Yale-New
Haven Hospital.
